Reader Discussion: What Would Sell You On An Apple TV?

by Mike Futter on Sep 09, 2015 at 11:52 AM

Earlier today, Apple dipped its toe in the living room gaming waters, announcing the next model of its Apple TV. The system comes with a touch- and motion-enabled remote, voice recognition, and support for third-party controllers.

With Ouya, Nvidia, MadCatz, Razer, and others having already made a play for mobile-powered gaming in the living room, core gaming customers are likely to be skeptical. Apple’s approach integrates games from its thriving (but cluttered) App Store ecosystem into the set-top box, bridging people from their iPhones to televisions with cloud-save support.

We want to know if this is enough for you to consider Apple TV as a gaming device. Have you tried an Android set-top box? Does Apple’s entry using a modified iOS operating system (tvOS) make the concept more compelling?

We’re curious to hear what you think the strengths and weaknesses of the Apple TV are. What would Apple need to do to win you over? Let us know in the comments.
