Castle Crashers Remastered Coming September 9 With Discount For 360 Owners

by Mike Futter on Sep 04, 2015 at 11:04 AM

The Behemoth is getting ready to release the updated version of its Xbox Live Arcade darling, Castle Crashers, in just a few days. If you’re returning for double-dip, you won’t need to spend very much to try out the new version.

The Remastered version features a new minigame, 60 frames-per-second visuals, improved textures, and a variety of gameplay and online updates. The best part is that you can get it for free, if you qualify.

Xbox Live Gold members who own the original game on Xbox 360 will get Castle Crashers for free on Xbox One through September 20. After that, purchasing the Xbox One version will only cost $5. Additionally, the original game will eventually become available on Xbox One via backward compatibility.

Those coming in fresh will be paying the normal price of $15. Castle Crashers Remastered arrives on Xbox One on September 9.

Our Take
It wouldn’t be a stretch for a developer to withhold backward compatibility after releasing a remaster. The Behemoth is doing this about as right as it can be done. Giving Castle Crashers Remastered away for free for 11 days and then dropping the price to $5 afterward for eligible customers is the epitome of “consumer friendly.”
