September Xbox Games With Gold Goes Definitive With Tomb Raider

by Mike Futter on Aug 25, 2015 at 05:10 AM

Microsoft’s Games with Gold lineup for September is a battle of the bows. Is Lara Croft a match for a super soldier? We’ll find out.

Here’s what you can look forward to throughout the month:

Xbox One

  • The Deer God - September 1 through September 30
  • Tomb Raider Definitive Edition - September 16 through October 15

Xbox 360

  • Battlestations Pacific - September 1 through September 15
  • Crysis 3 - September 16 through September 30

Don’t forget that How to Survive: Storm Warning Edition is available for Xbox One through September 15, also. You have until next Monday to download August’s titles.

At Gamescom, Microsoft announced that future Games with Gold titles on Xbox 360 will be added to the Xbox One backwards compatibility roster. We're investigating to see if that starts this month.

Update: Microsoft has responded to our inquiry about backward compatibility timing as it relates to Games with Gold. ""When backward compatibility launches in November, all future Xbox 360 Games with Gold titles will be playable on Xbox One," a representative told us via email. "That means Xbox Live Gold members will get more free games to play each month on Xbox One. Our goal is to make as many Xbox 360 titles playable on Xbox One as possible, including past Games with Gold Titles."

So, while you shouldn't count on Crysis 3 and Battlestations Pacific hitting Xbox One via backward compatibility this month (if you're in the preview program), there's a chance they could arrive later.
