Uncharted And Resident Evil Movies Get 2017 Release Dates

by Brian Shea on Aug 05, 2015 at 11:36 AM

Sony has detailed its film release schedule through 2017, and that slate features two prominent video game movies in addition to several other popular franchises.

Most noteworthy for gamers is the Uncharted film, which has been in the works since at least 2010. Nathan Drake's big screen adventure is currently set to release on June 30, 2017, placing Uncharted in the summer blockbuster months. Unfortunately, this date is far from guaranteed, as the making of this movie has proven tumultuous, with writers and directors coming and going regularly. Prior to this, the project was given a 2016 release date. Most recently, the Uncharted film lost Seth Gordon, its director.

Those hoping to see the new Resident Evil movie will have to wait for nearly another year and a half as the film previously known as Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is scheduled to hit on January 27, 2017. The delay was made to work around star Milla Jovovich's pregnancy. Now, the project is simply known as Resident Evil 6 and will also star Ali Larter, who appeared in Resident Evil: Extinction and Afterlife as Claire Redfield.

Also on the schedule for Sony are Bad Boys 3 (February 17, 2017), Ghostbusters (July 7, 2016), Jumanji (December 25, 2016), The Magnificent Seven (September 23, 2016), and Underworld 5 (October 21, 2016). Stretching beyond 2017, Sony has also stated that Bad Boys 4 will hit theaters on July 3, 2019.
