Elite Dangerous: Horizons Ushers In A New Season Of Elite Dangerous Expansions

by Alissa McAloon on Aug 05, 2015 at 08:47 AM

Frontier Developments has announced that a new season of Elite Dangerous content is on its way. Elite Dangerous: Horizons promises to introduce more features and gameplay to the Elite Dangerous universe, starting this Holiday season and continuing on into 2016.

The first expansion of the new season, Planetary Landings, gives players the ability to explore planet surfaces littered with minerals, fortresses, and crashed ships. Exploration is aided by the new Scarab surface recon vehicle. Planetary Landings promises seamless adventuring; players will be able to travel from space to a planet’s surface without loading screens.

The second, unnamed expansion of the season releases in early 2016 and brings with it a new loot and crafting system, in addition to other gameplay features not yet announced. The season retails for $59.99, but offers a $15 loyalty discount for existing Elite Dangerous players. Veteran players also unlock the Cobra Mk IV in-game spacecraft.

Until then, players have the upcoming CQC PvP update and Xbox One launch both arriving in September, and the Ships update to look forward to. CQC, or Close Quarters Combat, drops players into a gladiator styled battle of pilots featuring custom-built arenas, new weapons, and new abilities. The Ships update, arriving this holiday season, will introduce more star craft to the game and bring Elite Dangerous’ total ship count to over 30.

Elite Dangerous: Horizons releases for PC Holiday of 2015, and will deliver content well into next year. Information regarding the Xbox One and Mac releases will arrive in the future.
