Where Is Our Galak-Z Review?

by Ben Reeves on Aug 04, 2015 at 06:30 AM

Galak-Z is one the year's high-profile indie titles, and it is available today. But is it worth playing? We need a little more time to finish up our review, but if our early impressions are any indication, fans of space shooters shouldn't feel bad taking a risk on this gem.

Galak-Z is 17-Bit’s homage to Japanese animation from the ’80s such as Robotech. Part shooter, part roguelike, players explore a series of randomly-generated levels and combat various groups of enemies while collecting power ups and using the environment to aid them in combat.

I'm about halfway through this unpredictable shooter, and I'm having fun. Because of its roguelike nature, at the end of each season (or after each death), all of your equipment and progress is reset. Thankfully, the overall combat and environment remains compelling enough to encourage you to power your ship back up again. The controls take a while to master, but now that I've adjusted, I am having a lot of fun whipping past foes and shooting at their tailpipes. Keep an eye on the site for the review in the coming days.
