New Quantum Break Footage Brings Release Date And Star Power From Game Of Thrones, X-Men

by Andrew Reiner on Aug 04, 2015 at 04:28 AM

Microsoft kicked off its Gamescom 2015 Xbox briefing with a lengthy look at Quantum Break's gameplay. Along with the announcement of an April 5, 2016 release date, the teaser footage revealed three major cast members from the game: Shawn Ashmore (X-Men) playing the role of Jack Joyce, Dominic Monaghan (The Lords of the Rings), and Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones) who appears to be working against Jack Joyce.

The gameplay footage showed off Quantum Break's time-stopping functionality, which sends a ripple through the environment and freezes everyone but Joyce. When time is stopped, Joyce leaves the safety of cover, sprints up to his heavily armored attackers, and downs them with stylish and brutal finishers. Some of his executions end with him grabbing a weapon mid-air, just like Uncharted's Nathan Drake. When he's not altering time and moving along the battlefield unharmed, Joyce is hiding behind flipped over tables, and any object he can find. The enemies appear to be relentless in their attacks. The demo showed a vehicle smashing through a gate, and then Joyce confronting a time-based event, in which two people are struggling over a "device."

After the gameplay concluded, Remedy's Sam Lake took to the stage to introduce Shawn Ashmore, and show off the first live action footage from Quantum Break. Lake confirmed that a good portion of Quantum Break's story will be told through live action sequences. The footage, as brief as it was, offered plenty of action and looks great. We'll have more on Quantum Break as Gamescom unfolds throughout the week.
