Comcast Teams Up With EA For Streaming Game Service

by Mike Futter on Jul 14, 2015 at 05:54 AM

Comcast has announced that it is partnering with EA to deliver games to televisions with no added equipment. If you are an Xfinity customer, you can sign up for a beta starting today.

The team-up requires no additional controllers, as smartphones and tablets are used in their stead. Supported titles include Monopoly, FIFA Soccer 13, Real Racing 2, Plants vs. Zombies, NBA Jam, Zuma’s Revenge, World of Goo, Peggle Nights, Little Inferno, Feeding Frenzy 2, and M.U.L.E.

Customers with an X1 set-top box can sign up on the Xfinity Games beta site. A full listing of eligible titles can also be found there.

Our Take
The title selection is a bit weak right now, as many of the games in question can already be played on a smartphone or tablet. While I appreciate the idea of not requiring a controller, offering the option to pair a Bluetooth mobile controller would drastically enhance the opportunities. I’m not entirely sure who the target is for this yet, but perhaps that will emerge as the marketing campaign develops.
