Witcher 3 Game Director Compares Expansions' Length To Witcher 2

by Jeff Cork on Jul 10, 2015 at 05:16 AM

Players have poured countless hours into The Witcher 3 since its release, thanks in large part to the generous amount of side missions and additional content that the game provides. A pair of expansions loom on the horizon, and CD Projekt is comparing their combined scope to the entirety of The Witcher 2.

The 30-hour figure has been floated around since the expansions were announced, but game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz made the Witcher 2 comparison in a recent video interview with Gamereactor. Tomaszkiewicz said that the expansions would include new cutscenes, characters, and – of course – new Gwent cards, and that they would feature "emotional" new storylines.

"The first expansion [Hearts of Stone] will be around 10 hours, and the second expansion [Blood and Wine] will be around 20 hours." He added that it's possible they could be longer, but that he wasn't making any promises. "Even now, if you sum up this 10 and 20 hours and you compare it to The Witcher 2, it’s almost the size of The Witcher 2," he added.

Our Take
I'm still neck deep in The Witcher 3's main storyline, not that I'm complaining. I was a bit intimidated by that 30-hour mark when I first heard it.; having it compared to an entire game put it in terrifying perspective. I may never finish this game.
