Skylanders Superchargers Gets Dark Edition To Further Confound Amiibo Collectors

by Mike Futter on Jul 08, 2015 at 05:01 AM

Activision is continuing the trend of Skylanders collector’s editions this year with Superchargers. Those who want a suped up version of the starter kit can choose to go Dark.

For Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 3, the contents of the Dark Edition are as follows:

  • Dark Spitfire (figure)
  • Dark Hot Streak (vehicle)
  • Dark Super Shot Stealth Elf (figure)
  • Dark Sea Shadow (vehicle)
  • Kaos Trophy - Unlocks special Kaos content

This year though, the Dark edition brings with it another wrinkle. There are two different collector’s sets for Wii and Wii U, and each comes with a different version of a Skylander/Amiibo hybrid. The Wii version includes:

  • Dark Spitfire (figure)
  • Dark Hot Streak (vehicle)
  • Dark Hammer Slam Bowser (figure)
  • Dark Clown Cruiser (vehicle)
  • Kaos Trophy

The Wii U version comes with:

  • Dark Spitfire (figure)
  • Dark Hot Streak (vehicle)
  • Dark Turbo Charge Donkey Kong (figure)
  • Dark Barrel Blaster (vehicle)
  • Kaos Trophy

All of the Dark edition starter packs are priced at $99.99. Regular starter packs, which come with two figures and one vehicle. All starter packs come with a portal and game.

Our Take
The Dark Editions have a nice look, and usually it’s a toss-up for fans. This time out, there’s the Amiibo wrinkle, though. You can only get these figures in starter packs for Wii and Wii U. I’m sure that somewhere, there’s someone doing the math to figure out if $350 (plus tax) is worth it for four Amiibos.
