Report: Gameloft Laying Off Staff In New York City

by Mike Futter on Jul 08, 2015 at 12:01 PM

Reports are surfacing that mobile developer and publisher Gameloft is in the process of laying off an unknown number of staff. The cuts are allegedly localized in the company’s New York office.

Gameloft is responsible for the multi-installment Dungeon Hunter and Modern Combat franchises. It also has produced a number of Marvel Comics games, including Captain America: The Winter Soldier and The Amazing Spider-Man.

“Gameloft is actively managing its production organization and is refocusing on its most efficient and experienced creation centers in order to adapt to rapidly changing market conditions and to grow its revenues faster and more profitably,” a representative told us via email. No other comment was offered, and specific numbers or indication about what this means for the future of the New York office was provided.

Gameloft also maintains three additional offices in the United States, two in Canada, three in Mexico, four in South America, as well as locations throughout Europe, Asia, and Australia. Gameloft also maintains an office in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Our Take
Our thoughts are with those you find themselves out of a job or, possibly, forced to relocate. New York is an expensive place to live and work, among other challenges faced by developers in the city.
