Take Your First Look At Telltale's Minecraft: Story Mode

by Andrew Reiner on Jul 04, 2015 at 02:57 AM

Telltale Games unveiled the first trailer for Minecraft: Story Mode today at Minecon, the yearly Minecraft convention in Stockholm, Sweden. Holding true to the formula Telltale has used recently for all of its adventure game series, Minecraft: Story Mode is a five-part episodic game, in which player choice dictates pieces of the narrative.

Minecraft: Story Mode features the voice talents of Patton Oswalt, Ashley Johnson, Paul Reubens, Dave Fennoy, Corey Feldman, Scott Porter, Brian Posehn, and Billy West. The game puts players in the role of Jesse (Patton Oswalt) who is tracking down The Order of the Stone, a group of adventures that slayed an Ender Dragon.

Despite Microsoft purchasing Mojang, Minecraft: Story Mode is not releasing only on Microsoft platforms. It's coming this year to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, iOS, and Android devices.

Our Take
I like the art style and animation that Telltale has created for this odd choice for an adventure game. It'll be interesting to see how much control players have over the characters and building aspects of the game. Sword creation is hinted at early on in the trailer, but that could just be a scripted story event.
