Bethesda Considered Multiplayer For Fallout 4

by Mike Futter on Jun 25, 2015 at 06:30 AM

The Wasteland is a desolate place, and one we must travel alone. Well, unless we have an AI companion.

Bethesda won’t be implementing multiplayer into Fallout 4, but that doesn’t mean that Todd Howard and his team didn’t consider it. In fact, in an interview with Mashable, Howard says that the team has designed a mode for more than one player on more than one occasion.

The end result is the same each time. Bethesda considers it a distraction from the single-player vision the team wants to present. “I could see ways it would work, but development-wise, they're very different experiences,” Howard says.

Whether you were hoping for multiplayer or dreading it, now you know. You’ll be traveling the Wasteland without human companionship. Thankfully, that dog is darn cute.

Our Take
I’m not disappointed in this at all. I love Bethesda’s single-player adventures and my greatest hope for Fallout 4 is that it delivers more of the wonder of exploration I’ve spent countless hours enjoying in the past.
