by Matthew Kato on Jun 24, 2015 at 05:09 AM

2K Games and NBA 2K16 continue to celebrate the legacy of Michael Jordan via a special edition featuring goodies revolving around the all-time great.

The special edition is being released for the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game for $79.99. Similar to those who pre-order the regular copy of the game, anyone who pre-orders the special edition gets early access to the full title on Friday, Sept. 25 – four days before the regular launch*.

The special edition also includes (text from 2K):

  • Jordan NBA 2K16 poster
  • Jordan Fathead wall cling
  • Digital Jordan shoes for your MyPlayer
  • Digital Jordan t-shirt for your MyPlayer
  • Digital Jordan jersey for your MyPlayer
  • 30,000 virtual currency
  • MyTeam VIP+: 3 emerald packs and a new special edition exclusive moments card

*NBA 2K16 comes out for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC on September 29.

Our Take
You may want to think hard about whether everything in this special edition is worth the extra money to you. Pre-ordering the regular version already gets you the early access, 10,000 VC, and the MyTeam VIP package. That 30,000 VC alone costs approximately $10 (going by last year's rate from third-party retailers), so the VC in the special edition itself only accounts for roughly $6 of the edition's extra cost (while the Fathead wall sticker represents more value). The worth of the VC in particular should be questioned considering the series' past screw ups with its online check-in system to the cloud which has rendered VC and even single-player modes worthless when the servers are on the fritz.
