Batman: Arkham Knight Batmobile Edition Canceled For Quality Concerns

by Mike Futter on Jun 22, 2015 at 04:45 AM

With Batman: Arkham Knight out tomorrow, some of you might be clearing space for that hulking Batmobile version. While we do recommend you take the time to dust, you’re going to want to fill that spot with something else.

The $199.99 version of the game has been canceled. Kotaku first reported last week on the news, which comes with some small consolation. Everyone who purchases the game will get the New 52 skin pack that was originally limited to the Batmobile and Collector’s Edition.

Additionally, the Collector’s Edition has been delayed, at least in Europe. Eurogamer reports that customers who have ordered the $99.99 version (with Batman statue) won’t be receiving it until July due to packaging concerns.

Retailers have told effected customers that they will receive download codes for the game so they can begin playing upon release tomorrow. We’ve reached out to WB Games for more details about how North American customers are impacted. We’ll update should we receive a response.

Our Take
The issue with the late notice here is that those who pre-ordered the Batmobile version are unlikely to be able to find a Collector’s Edition at this late hour. The statement provided to Kotaku suggests that customers can instead order one of the other versions, but the reality is that those fans won’t be bringing home an upgraded edition unless they are extremely lucky.

For those who did have the Collector’s Edition delayed, the retailers (and presumably WB Games) are making the right call in delivering download codes. Otherwise, I suspect the wave of cancelations would be of the tidal variety.
