Update: G1-Inspired Transformers: Devastation Game Leaked

by Matt Miller on Jun 13, 2015 at 02:00 PM

Update: After today's earlier story about the rumored Transformers: Devastation, a Canadian retail site for Best Buy has posted additional details about the game. Devastation is said to be developed by PlatinumGames, and to include both robot and vehicle attacks, a combo system, and five difficulty levels. The story is said to focus on Megatron's efforts to cyberform Earth, and include five play playable characcters: Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Sideswipe, Wheeljack, and Grimlock. The Best Buy website also state that actors from the original series are reprising their roles from the original cartoon, including Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime, Dan Gilvezan as Bumblebee, and Frank Welker as Megatron and Soundwave.

The additional details don't confirm the existence of the game, but it's awfully hard at this point to believe otherwise.

Thanks to reader CaptainSlayer for the heads-up.

Original Story

PureXbox today revealed a number of screenshots for an apparent new Transformers game being produced by Activision. The website states that their anonymous source provided the screens, along with the information that the game is entitled Transformers: Devastation, and that the game is coming to Xbox 360, although it’s unclear whether other platforms may also be on the docket.

The new game appears to be a cel-shaded revival of the original look for the Transformers characters, as they appeared in the 1980s cartoon. Screens reveal characters including Autobot leader Optimus Prime, spunky yellow Bumblebee, Decepticon tyrant Megatron, and perhaps most exciting of all, the huge combiner robot named Devastator.

We reached out to Activision regarding the screens and info, and the publisher told us they had no comment regarding the apparent leak.

If you’d like to check out the new screens, hop over to PureXbox to take a look.

Our Take
I’d love to see a new game that explores the nostalgic roots of the Transformers franchise, and a brief glimpse at the leaked screens certainly provides an air of authenticity. If this is a new Transformers project, we expect to have more details next week during the big show.
