Torchlight Mobile To Brighten iOS And Android

by Matt Miller on Jun 12, 2015 at 10:19 AM

Perfect World today revealed its plans to release Torchlight Mobile, a new action RPG set in the world of Torchlight and Torchlight II. Like its predecessors, Torchlight Mobile is aiming to provide the same style of combat, leveling, and looting as appeared in the original game by Runic. The new game is also touting its approach to online-enabled play, which hopefully indicates that we can expect the same cooperative fun experienced in the older games.

Perfect World hasn’t provided much in the way of early visuals of the game or additional details about what’s in store. However, we should learn more next week, as Perfect World has declared its plans to debut more information at E3, before a final release to iOS and Android devices later in 2015. Curious about the older games? Read our review of Torchlight II from 2012.

Our Take
The Torchlight series is often cited as one of the best action/RPG series on the market, and I'm honestly surprised we haven't heard about a mobile installment before now. As it is, Perfect World will have some significant competition from other developers in the mobile space who have had years to perfect their models. Hopefully, Perfect World finds a way to transition over the attractive aesthetic and fun loot gathering of the original games, and without some of the exploitative money-grabbing practices that are all too common in the mobile sphere.
