PlayStation 4 Outsells Competition During May In United States

by Brian Shea on Jun 11, 2015 at 11:24 AM

NPD results for the month of May hit today, and Sony has released a statement thanking its fans for helping to make PlayStation 4 the top-selling console of the month for the U.S. market. In addition, the PlayStation 4 also posted the best software numbers for the month.

In a statement provided to us, Sony touted some impressive numbers in the PlayStation 4's lifetime sales. "As we head into E3, we would like to thank gamers for making PS4 the top selling console and the leader in software sales in the U.S. in May," the statement says. "PS4 continues to be the cumulative sales leader in the US and globally with more than 20 million consoles already in the market.  We are truly humbled by this success and we look forward to sharing what’s next for PS4 at our E3 press conference on June 15."

These results differ from what we saw in April, when Xbox One outsold PlayStation 4. We haven't yet received the full NPD report, so stay tuned for the full numbers later this evening.

Our Take
PlayStation 4 continues to be a juggernaut as far as sales go. It will be interesting to see how the numbers shake out for the rest of the year as the holiday lineup truly takes shape at E3 next week.
