CD Projekt Red Sells 4 Million Copies Of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt In First Two Weeks

by Mike Futter on Jun 09, 2015 at 02:46 AM

CD Projekt Red is celebrating a significant milestone for its latest adventure with Geralt. The studio has announced that in the first two week's following The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's May 19 release, over 4 million copies have been sold.

"Four million RPG fans spending their hard-earned money on our game is a sign that we did something right, and you can be sure that we’ll harness all that positive energy and make the upcoming expansions worthy of the grand adventure that you’re telling us Wild Hunt already is!" writes company co-founder Marcin Iwinski. The email also acknowledges that the team continues to work on improving the game.

Our review of The Witcher 3 was glowing, but we have also reported on issues that have plagued the game. Problems like extremely tiny text, a serious save game issue, and an experience bug introduced by a patch have all marred the user experience. These are on the way to repair, if not already fixed, meaning it may now be safe to dive in.

CD Projekt Red will be rolling out more free DLC. Later this year, it will be releasing substantial paid expansions.

Our Take
I recently went back to the beginning to start playing The Witcher: Enhanced Edition on PC. The series has undergone an impressive evolution since 2007, with new gameplay mechanics and a richer world, even while holding true to a grayer morality than is found in many of its peers. CD Projekt has built a following and based on what I'm hearing, people seem satisfied with being one of 4 million customers.
