Hironobu Sakaguchi's Terra Battle Enters Second Phase Of 'Download Starter'

by Mike Futter on Jun 04, 2015 at 03:00 AM

If you ignored Terra Battle when it was first announced and when we told how good it was just because it was on mobile, you might be interested now. With the game crossing the 2 million download mark, a title set in that universe is coming to consoles.

Mistwalker isn't stopping there, though. The developer has announced a new set of download milestones. These include both in-game and corollary materials.

Here's what's coming as the Terra Battle community grows and more people download the game:

  • 2.1 million: A Terra Battle novel
  • 2.2 million: New music by Hitoshi Sakimoto (Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy XII)
  • 2.3 million: New characters designed by Yosuke Kozaki
  • 2.4 million: Puzzle Quest by Daisuke Yamamoto of GungHo Online
  • 2.5 million: New background illustration by Yuuzou Kayama
  • 2.6 million: Endless Quest by Yoshinori Kitase (Director of Final Fantasy VI - VIII, Final Fantasy X, Chrono Trigger)
  • 2.7 million: Team Fujisaka world
  • 2.8 million: A Terra Battle comic
  • 2.9 million: Opera Quest with composer Nubuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy VI and many others)
  • 3.0 million: Planning begins for a second Terra Battle concert

Mistwalker is also planning on a Terra Battle fan meetup. Details will be discussed at a later time. Terra Battle is free-to-play and available on iOS and Android.

Our Take
Contrary to what some believe, there are good mobile titles, and some of them are free-to-play. I really enjoy what Sakaguchi and Mistwalker have created here, as the gameplay is unique and challenging. If you have a compatible device, I urge you to give it a chance.
