Blizzard’s Heroes Of The Storm Championships Announced With $1.2 Million Prize Pool

by Mike Futter on May 14, 2015 at 06:52 AM

Blizzcon will feature a new event this year, when it returns to Anaheim, California in November. Those in attendance and watching via stream will be treated to the first championship event for the company’s Heroes of the Storm MOBA.

In order to get to the big stage though, teams will need to first compete in regional qualifiers. These will take place in the Americas, Europe, China, Korea, and Taiwan. The top eight teams will advance to the finals at Blizzcon. Sign-up information will be available on the official website.

The total prize pool amounts to $1.2 million, with the top team bringing home $200,000 from Blizzcon and an additional $300,000 spread amongst other finalist teams. Heroes of the Storm is currently in beta, with launch scheduled for June 2.

Our Take
While I haven’t played much Heroes of the Storm, it did feel like one of the more accessible MOBAs out there. The objectives help give more definitive shape to the matches, making it feel more directed than other titles.
