Nintendo, Universal Creating A Real-World Nintendo Land

by Jeff Cork on May 07, 2015 at 03:55 AM

Nintendo has created a huge roster of characters and memorable worlds over decades in video games – so much so, that the lack of a Nintendo theme park seemed a bit odd. After all, they've carefully cultivated a family-friendly image, and their games seem like a natural fit for the real world. The wait appears to be over. Nintendo and Universal Parks & Resorts have announced plans to create the first-ever attractions based on Nintendo's beloved licenses.

The initial announcement doesn't provide many other details, besides saying that Nintendo and Universal's creative teams are still hashing out concepts. More details will be coming soon, presumably once the companies have a better sense of what they're going to be doing. (Note: The Nintendo Land logo I tossed up there is for illustrative purposes only; there's not an official name for the park at this time.)

In the meantime, we can think of some Nintendo games or locations that would be great fits for the partnership. How about real Super Mario Kart races, similar to what Waterloo Labs created a few years ago? Or an on-rails light-gun ride through Boo Mansion? Obviously, Princess Peach's Castle has to be the centerpiece of the park, similar to how the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is the centerpiece of Universal's The Wizarding World of Harry Potter attraction.

Our Take
What do you think? What games, characters, and locations should be shoo-ins for the park? Personally, I won't be happy unless the people who sweep the streets and pick up trash are dressed in Chibi-Robo! costumes.
