Madden NFL 16 Platforms Announced, Cover Athlete Voting Starts Today

by Mike Futter on May 04, 2015 at 05:53 AM

Four athletes are in contention for the Madden NFL 16 cover. You can start casting your votes, but you’ll need a previous Madden title in order to do so.

In contention for the cover are Rob Gronkowski (New England Patriots), Patrick Peterson (Arizona Cardinals), Odell Beckham, Jr. (New York Giants), and Antonio Brown (Pittsburgh Steelers). The winner will be revealed on May 13 during the 6 p.m. Eastern edition of Sportscenter on ESPN.

In order to vote, you’ll need a copy of Madden NFL Mobile and/or Madden NFL 15. For mobile players, you’ll get one vote per day, earned by logging in. More can be earned by completing Live events.

For Madden Ultimate Team players, you’ll get one vote for logging in. Another four can be earned by playing four different Solo challenges.

The first round ends on Monday, May 11. Two finalists will be announced the following day, with votes taken on ESPN.com on May 13.

Madden NFL 16 will be out on August 25 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 3.

Our Take
EA is smart to balance the need for previous titles with open voting at the finalist stage. This incentivizes people to put Madden back in during the off months (or play the mobile game). Opening up the vote broadly makes sure that everyone gets a say in the second round.
