Mighty No. 9 Headed For Retail And Digital Release In September

by Mike Futter on Apr 28, 2015 at 05:23 AM

Comcept has announced that its teaming up with Deep Silver for the release of Mighty No. 9. The Kickstarter darling led by Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune will be coming to digital storefronts and retail locations in September.

In order to put the game on store shelves, Comcept is teaming up with Deep Silver to handle marketing and distribution. This isn’t the Saints Row publisher’s first Kickstarter partnership. The company previously teamed up with inXile to handle retail distribution, reward fulfillment, and quality assurance testing.

In its relationship with Comcept to bring Mighty No. 9 to market, Deep Silver will be broadening the reach of the Ray DLC, which includes a new stage included for all Kickstarter backers and those that purchase the retail version. When the stage is defeated, Ray becomes an additional playable character through the main game.

Deep Silver will also be providing voice-over localization support in Japanese and French, in addition to the already planned English voicing. There will also be subtitles added in English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Russian, Polish, and Brazillian Portuguese.

Mighty No. 9 raised over $4 million (including Paypal) during late 2013. The projected delivery window for the game was anticipated at April 2015, meaning Comcept will miss its target by over four months.

The game is slated for release on September 15 in North America (September 18 in Europe). Launch platforms include retail and digital releases for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Wii U. Digital releases are also planned for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, Mac, and Linux. Vita and 3DS versions will come later.

Our Take
Deep Silver is smart to leverage its relationships and infrastructure to help Kickstarter projects with fulfillment, marketing, and distribution. In the same light, those project managers that recognize that these elements are beyond their internal expertise are going to have more success (and happier backers) by outsourcing. This is a win-win, and a smart one for all involved.
