Minecraft’s Steve Gets A Female Friend, And The Simpsons Arrive On PlayStation

by Mike Futter on Apr 27, 2015 at 04:56 AM

Minecraft DLC is slowly but surely expanding from Xbox platforms to PlayStation systems. The latest batch brings the Simpsons family and friends to Mojang’s blocky world.

The Simpsons pack includes Bart, Homer, Lisa, Maggie, Marge, and many other familiar characters. The good news is that since The Simpsons and the Mass Effect mash-up pack before it, other licensed packs might be on their way over.

Also announced today is the inclusion of a new playable character. Alex is a female avatar that has eight different variations (the same number as original player character Steve).

“We like Steve as much as the next crafter, but he doesn’t really represent the diversity of our player base,” writes Mojang’s Owen Hill. “That’s why we’ve introduced Alex — she has slightly thinner arms than Steve, but plays exactly the same way as he does.”

Both updates are arriving this week. Alex is free, but there will be a charge associated with The Simpsons skins. That hasn’t been detailed yet, but if it’s the same as on Xbox, it will run you $2.99.

Update: Microsoft has reached out to share some news about the Xbox 360 version of the game (also shared in the comment section by MrXBob). The Xbox 360 version will be getting 30 new achievements to bring it on par with the 1,000 points offered by the Xbox One edition. Furthermore, the last-gen version is getting new music by C418.
