Daybreak (Formerly Sony Online) Celebrating Independence With Giveaways, Live Streams

by Mike Futter on Apr 27, 2015 at 09:20 AM

It’s been nearly three months since Sony Online Entertainment was sold off to investment firm Columbus Nova. In that time, the company has rebranded as Daybreak Game Company and is ready to celebrate its new independence.

This week, Daybreak has revealed its logo and a full slate of live streams featuring six of its titles. Here’s the full schedule:

  • Monday, April 27 @ 2:30PM PT - Landmark
  • Monday, April 27 @ 4:00PM PT - EverQuest / EverQuest II
  • Tuesday, April 28 @ 2:30PM PT - DC Universe Online
  • Wednesday, April 29 @ 2:30PM PT - Community Team Presents "Daybreak 101"
  • Thursday, April 30 @ 2:30PM PT - PlanetSide 2
  • Friday, May 1 @ 2:30PM PT - H1Z1

You can catch all the activity on Daybreak Game Company's Twitch channel. Studio president John Smedley also announced that the company will be moving to new office space in San Diego later this year.

In addition, the developer will be hosting in-game events in EverQuest (50 percent bonus XP through noon Pacific on May 4), EverQuest II (double XP for All Access members through noon Pacific on May 4), and Planetside 2 (All players get double XP through Friday night, All Access members through Sunday). You can read more on Daybreak’s new website.

Our Take
As Daybreak gets on its feet after this major transition, we’re watching closely to see when the promise of multiplatform releases will be fulfilled. I don’t expect it will happen overnight, but the potential of an Xbox One launch for Planetside 2 and console releases for H1Z1 will likely mean significant revenue from new audiences.
