Star Wars Concept Artist Stephen Chang Shares Visions Of Futuristic Flight

by Jon Gregory on Apr 13, 2015 at 08:50 AM

Stephen Chang has worked on Star Wars games at LucasArts for 7 years, and is likely working on Visceral's new project now that he's at EA, but his own personal concepts are much more down to earth.

Chang, an aviation enthusiast, has put together a set of futuristic takes on commercial airliners. Chang believes that future airliners will adapt more organic designs, and he attempted to reflect that in his designs. However, they also borrow heavily from real world technology. His concept of 250+ person airliner draws inspiration from NASA's shape-shifting wing technology, while the 40-person passenger plane above is inspired by the V-22 Osprey. Though these designs don't directly tie to Star Wars, it's very possible that Chang's personal style will influence the games going forward.

The identity of EA's new Star Wars project is still unknown. A little over a year ago, Amy Hennig announced her departure from Uncharted developer Naughty Dog and a new job working on an unannounced Star Wars title. Shortly after revealing her place at Visceral, Hennig also stated via Twitter that actor Todd Stashwick was joining her to help co-write the new game. Few new details have been given about Visceral’s game since Hennig’s announcement.
