Update: Sling TV says that its latest update, which includes optional HBO support, is now available to its subscribers. The $15 HBO add-on provides access to three streams of the the channel's programming as well as the same on-demand content that HBO Go provides.

Original Story: Last week, Sling TV announced that it was bringing HBO to its service as a standalone channel. They didn't provide a release date, only saying that it would be available before Sunday's Game of Thrones premiere. Today, Sling is nudging that fuzzy window a day ahead, saying it should be arriving before Saturday, in conjunction with several app updates.

Sling says the updates include under-the-hood tweaks to reduce server load to better accommodate streaming during times of heavy viewership – a must for the Game of Thrones premiere. It also adds parental controls systemwide, as well as a guide update that makes it easier for Amazon, Roku, and Xbox One users to find shows by their subject and genre.

HBO access will set you back an an additional $15 a month over the standard $20 monthly Sling subscription fee. In addition to providing access to HBO's live content, Sling says it will also feature the same on-demand content as HBO Go.

Our Take
This weekend is going to be a big one for Sling. HBO Go has had its own issues with network stability, and Sling has to prove that it's up for the challenge of bringing such a highly anticipated show to viewers. You can bet that if people lose their feeds or can't access them in the first place, Twitter will explode.
