Remembering Shin Hieftje

by Matt Miller on Apr 08, 2015 at 10:00 AM

I have supervised and worked together with a number of interns in recent years, but Jeremy “Shin” Hieftje was a particularly memorable presence in the Game Informer offices. During his term in the early months of 2014, he was quick to smile and put you at ease in conversation. He often saw games and entertainment from a surprising perspective, and his writing indicated an eagerness to consider subjects beyond surface level.

It was with great sadness that we learned of Shin’s death on April 1. He was a young and vibrant creative voice, and it’s so unfortunate that we won’t hear more of his thoughts and ideas in the years to come, no matter what career or path he might have pursued.

Even during the brief months that Shin worked with us, his articles revealed his thoughtful way of perceiving the world.

We have chosen to respect the privacy of Shin’s family in this time of remembering and honoring him, but they considerately agreed to let us share this short remembrance. A memorial service for Jeremy “Shin” Hieftje is planned for Saturday, April 11 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Ann Arbor, Michigan.
