Mystery Lego Tease Spans Batman, Lord Of The Rings, Back To The Future

by Kyle Hilliard on Apr 08, 2015 at 04:11 PM

Using the hashtag #BreakTheRules on assorted social media sites, Lego seems to be teasing something related to a number of popular franchises.

A short video on the official Lego Instagram shows Community's Joel McHale opening a Doctor Who-themed box.

The official DC twitter account tweeted about the picture you see above, with a reference to The Lego Movie's Batman.

The picture below has also been making the rounds online, showing a Lego hand holding an envelope with tomorrow's date with a Hill Valley return address, which is from Back to the Future.

There is also a Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit tease.

And a tease from The Lego Movie, which you can see here.

Though it's difficult to confirm their original sources and may be fan-made, searching the #BreakTheRules hashtag on twitter shows other popular franchises as well, some which have made appearances as Lego video games.

Videogamer.com recently reported that Lego is planning on jumping into the Toys to Life trend to compete with franchises like Skylanders, Disney Infinity, and Nintendo's Amiibos. It's entirely possible that these teases could be related to that initiative.

Our Take
A Toys to Life initiative from Warner Bros., Lego, and Telltale Games certainly seems plausible, but this collection of different franchises could also be related to the mostly shrouded-in-mystery Lego Movie 2. Looks like we will find out more tomorrow.
