Star Wars Movies Go Digital This Week, Bonuses For Buying On Xbox

by Mike Futter on Apr 07, 2015 at 02:59 AM

On April 10, the six Star Wars films finally go digital. The collection will be available via a number of partners, but Microsoft has decided to sweeten the deal for those opting for Xbox Video.

If you purchase through Microsoft’s video platform, you’ll also get Zen Studios’ Star Wars Pinball for Pinball FX2 (for Xbox One or Xbox 360) and an R2-D2 avatar companion. Microsoft has also secured a 60-second teaser for new bonus materials that can be unlocked by pre-purchasing.

If you’d prefer to acquire the films from another channel, here are the services participating:

  • iTunes
  • Google Play
  • Vudu
  • Amazon
  • Xbox Video
  • Disney Movies Anywhere
  • PlayStation Video
  • Nook / Barnes & Noble
  • M-Go
  • Cineplex (Canada)

Individual films in the set seem to be consistently priced across outlets at $19.99 (inclusive of special features). Purchasing them all would cost you $119.94. Prices seem to vary for the entire collection, though each retailer is offering a discount.

Microsoft and M-Go are charging $99.99 (essentially netting you one of the films for free by purchasing in bulk). Google Play, Amazon, and Vudu are offering the bundle for $89.99. There isn’t a listing for the entire collection at iTunes or Barnes & Noble yet (leaving you with a la carte options for now). Disney isn’t offering a pre-order of Episode IV or the bundle (yet). Sony isn’t listing the films yet, but the store has yet to update for the week.

Cineplex is offering the bundle for $137.49 (CAD). Individual films are priced at $29.99 (CAD), meaning the bundle is a significant savings of $42.45 (CAD).

2015 is already shaping up to be a big year for Star Wars fans. Fan Celebration is next week, during which we’ll get the first full trailer for Star Wars Battlefront. The title itself is due this year, and Episode VII rounds out the calendar with a December release.

But, if there’s one thing I want you to remember this year, it’s this: Han shot first. You can get easy access to the different partner services from the official Star Wars website.
