Classic Batman Story 'Knightfall' Is New Again This Year

by Andrew Reiner on Mar 20, 2015 at 09:48 AM

In the first issue of Convergence: Shadow of the Bat, the '90s live again. Writer Larry Hama, who worked on Batman at the time, is creating a new chapter for Knightfall, one of Batman's most beloved tales, and the comic book series I frequently reference as a comparison point for Rocksteady's Arkham video game series.

This new tale picks up toward the end of Knightfall with Bruce Wayne recovering from his broken back. He's tasked to team up with Azrael, who has taken over as Batman, to stop a new threat. If you read Knightfall, and know how it concludes, seeing Batman and Azrael on the same team should be mighty interesting.

The force they are going against is also stripped out of the '90s, but not from Batman's universe. The unlikely duo battles the original Wetworks lineup from Wildstorm comics. I'm a little wary of this melding of universes, but that's what Convergence is all about. It'll be interesting to see how this Knighfall story affects the new continuity after Convergence ends. You can get your hands on this comic on April 15.
