Reader Discussion: What Should Microsoft Do With Banjo-Kazooie?

by Kyle Hilliard on Mar 15, 2015 at 10:04 AM

This weekend saw two pieces of Banjo-Kazooie-related news, which prompts the discussion: What should Microsoft be doing with the bear and bird?

Playtonic Games, a studio made of folks who worked on Banjo-Kazooie, offered some more details on Project Ukelele – a self-professed spiritual successor to the Nintendo 64 platformer.

During the SXSW Video Game Awards, an audience-driven interactive Banjo-Kazooie experience was shown. It wasn't a Kinect game, but it looked like one, prompting many to assume Microsoft was announcing a Banjo-Kazooie Kinect game for the future.

It's a franchise people have a lot of love for, but Microsoft doesn't seem to know what to do with it. It ported Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie to Xbox Live Arcade to some success, and it released Nuts & Bolts, which has its fans, but is much different than the Banjo-Kazooie games fans loved on Nintendo 64.

What do you think Microsoft would do with the franchise? Do you want more traditional Banjo-Kazooie? Another Nuts & Bolts? Or maybe something completely new?
