College eSports Event To Be Televised On ESPN
Blizzard Entertainment, in conjunction with ESPN, have announced that Heroes of the Dorm, a collegiate eSports competition coming this Spring, will be televised through the ESPN Network. The event has students across North America battle each other on the beta of Blizzard's upcoming free-to-play multiplayer online battle arena, Heroes of The Storm.
This event is the first collegiate eSports tournament to receive live television coverage. Over $450,000 towards tuition will be available in prizes as students compete head-to-head. The winning team will be awarded up to $25,000 per year tuition for their remaining academic careers. Players that make it to the final Heroic Four round will each be given a high performance gaming PC with Heroes of the Storm accessories.
Three rounds of the competition will take place, the first beginning on March 28, the second on April 11, and the last showdown in late April, which is the segment that will be televised live. Viewers can watch through digital platforms via WatchESPN or through the ESPN cable network.

It's fun to see ESPN take a further interest in eSports, and it will act as a great promotion for Blizzard's new game. I'm sure that both participants and spectators will embrace the sportsmanship that comes along with it. With the popularity of League of Legends, DOTA, and others, I hope that we see ESPN to take a continued interest in broadcasting these tournaments.
