Spotify Arrives On PS4 This Spring Offering Custom Background Soundtracks

by Mike Futter on Jan 28, 2015 at 04:02 AM

Sony has announced a new service called PlayStation Music powered by Spotify. You’ll be able to link your PSN account to Spotify and sign-up and access the music group’s premium service.

In addition to streaming music, the new service will allow users to have custom background tunes in games on PlayStation 4. The program is slated to launch this spring on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xperia phones, and tablets.

PlayStation Music will replace Music Unlimited, which is closing on March 29 in the 19 countries in which it exists. Most of those territories will be part of the 41 in which PlayStation Music will launch.

Music Unlimited members that have active subscriptions as of February 28 will receive free access to that service through March 29. More information on PlayStation Music will arrive closer to launch.

Our Take
This is a big get for Sony, especially for the background, custom soundtracks. I used to love using that feature on other consoles, and this might also get me to spring for a Spotify premium membership.
