EA: Battlefront, New Need For Speed On Schedule For 2015

by Jeff Marchiafava on Jan 27, 2015 at 11:04 AM

Today during Electronic Arts' Q3 2015 earnings call, the publisher confirmed that two big franchises are on track for 2015 releases.

EA tweeted last October that Battlefront would be available in holiday 2015, and today the publisher confirmed that the game would be out before Christmas, and would "be aligned with the Star Wars movie rollout," which is scheduled to release in theaters on December 18. Battlefield developer DICE has been working on the highly anticipated reboot, but little has been revealed about the game since the E3 2014 teaser trailer.

A new Need For Speed title for consoles and PC was also confirmed for a 2015 release. Last May, EA announced that the long-running racing franchise would be skipping a 2014 installment after more than 10 years of annual releases, but that the IP is now back in rotation.

No further details were revealed for either title, but given the time frame EA is aiming for, we suspect we'll see and hear more about both at E3. Earlier today, EA delayed PGA Tour from this quarter (ending March 31, 2015) to sometime between April and June.

Our Take
Given the lack of updates, it's nice to hear that Battlefront is still on track for this year (and given the use of the word "aligned," probably in late November so as not to miss prime shopping season), and that Need For Speed is ready to get back into the race. Granted that doesn't rule out the very real potential of delays as the end of the year looms closer, but for now fans can rest easy.
