Evolve’s Season Pass And Deluxe Edition Detailed, More Hunters And Monsters Coming

by Mike Futter on Jan 13, 2015 at 06:35 AM

Turtle Rock and 2K have announced post-launch plans for Evolve that include more characters and monsters. You can purchase them a la carte or in a bundle, but you won’t be walled off from any portion of the player base if you decide not to opt-in.

The game launches with twelve maps, twelve hunters, and three monsters. The fourth monster, Behemoth (revealed today) is available for free as a pre-order bonus ($14.99 value).

The season pass will include four more hunters (one in each class). They’ll be coming later, but buying in gets you a “magma” skin for each of the three launch monsters (Goliath, Kraken, and Wraith). That will cost you $24.99, but the hunters will also be available individually for $7.49.

For those that are interested in purchasing digitally, you can get the deluxe edition. For $79.99, you get the game, Behemoth, and the first four DLC hunters. That also gets you the savage goliath skin and the three magma skins.

Finally, PC players get the cutely named PC Monster Race edition as an option. This $99.99 bundle gets you the game, the season pass, Behemoth, and the four skins (just like the deluxe edition). On top of that, you’ll get a fifth monster (which we’ve just found out exists today) and two more hunters. This package also includes four more skins that won’t be available for individual purchase until 30 days after release.

Even if you don't buy a single additional monster or hunter, you will be able to play with others who have purchased them. Additionally, all maps released after launch will be free. Regardless of the add-ons you choose to purchase, you'll never be locked out of a match because of DLC.

Evolve is headed into open beta on Xbox One this week. That event starts on Thursday, January 15. On Saturday, January 17, Evacuation mode will be added to the test. The beta wraps up on January 19.

Evolve will be out on February 10 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. For more, check out our cover story from February 2014. You can also read up on the Behemoth, Evolve’s fourth monster, for more information.

Our Take
There are a lot of options available to those interested in Evolve, but the different pieces can get a bit confusing. Between the special offer on Xbox One for instantly unlocking the tier three hunters and Wraith and now all these different DLC bits, keeping it all straight is quite the challenge.
