Halo 5: Guardians Limited Editions Announced, Few Details Beyond Price Offered

by Mike Futter on Dec 29, 2014 at 02:19 AM

Microsoft and 343 Industries have announced three different versions of Halo 5: Guardians. In addition to the standard version that includes the game alone, there are two higher-priced editions with added digital and physical content.

The Limited Edition ($99.99) includes digital content to “enhance Spartan combat” and “exclusive items.” The game will come in a steelbook case instead of the regular green plastic one.

The Limited Collector’s Edition ($249.99) includes everything in the Limited Edition plus another, as yet unrevealed physical item. 343 Industries is designing a numbered statue that will be included in this set.

Today at 9 a.m. Pacific / 12 p.m. Eastern marks the start of the Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta. Any items unlocked for the beta from watching Halo: Nightfall or playing Halo: The Master Chief Collection will carry forward to Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer when that title is released in fall 2015.

Our Take
I’m starting to get numb to $249.99 collector’s editions, but this one is going to sting Halo fans. If you want it, you’ll need to pre-order it fast, because it’s likely to be in limited numbers.

Unfortunately, right now you have absolutely no idea what you’re getting for that amount. If you have any interest whatsoever, you might want to pre-order and then cancel if you don’t like the contents. I am not at all a fan of announcements like this that carry heavy price tags and absolutely no other information.
