Destiny Players Battle Aliens For 99 Millenia

by Ben Reeves on Dec 22, 2014 at 12:10 PM

During an end of the year recap blog post, Bungie released some impressive Destiny stats. More than 12 million people (playing nearly 23 million guardians) have started playing Destiny and they’ve been playing a lot of it. To put it into perspective: the human race has spent more time playing Destiny than it has building pyramids.

In a recent blog post, Bungie's Community Manager David  "DeeJ" Dague dropped some impressive stats on us. Some people like to complain about Destiny, but we sure have played a lot of it.

  • In the span of time you have spent playing Destiny, the Curiosity Rover could have made the voyage to Mars more than one hundred thousand times*
  • If the Guardians populating Destiny occupied a single city, it would be as large as New York City and Los Angeles, combined
  • Atheon has been shattered 2.4 Million times
    • At least a dozen of those kills were without cheese
  • Crota has been Ended 769 times, and rapidly counting
    • But only once by a Fireteam of one (step it up, everyone else)

Our Take
I liked Destiny, but I haven't put as much time into the game as many of the other editors at the office. Still, I never expected that this many people had spent that much time in the game. Congrats Bungie! I hope next year is as successful for you.
