Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee HD Finally Landing On Vita Today

by Jeff Cork on Dec 16, 2014 at 02:48 AM

The HD remake of Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee is arriving on Vita today, giving players a chance to once again lead a revolution against a cartoonishly monstrous corporation. The version adds graphical enhancements, as well as "tightened controls," according to Oddworld Inhabitants.

Vita owners who have been looking forward to this one have had to wait quite a while. The Vita remake was announced nearly three years ago, alongside a planned release window of Q2 2012. A PlayStation 3 remake was announced at the same time for the same release window, and it came out Dec. 24, 2012.

At any rate, it's finally coming later today. Players control a one-legged Gabbit named Munch as he hops through 3D worlds (a first for the Oddworld series) or tears along in his wheelchair. Munch has to rescue creatures from the vile Vykkers Labs, a company that delights in turning animals into fabric softener.

Our Take
I played this when I first got my original Xbox, and it was a fun little game. I still recoil at the memory of his squeaky wheelchair, though. It's good that Oddworld Inhabitants is polishing up their old games, but I think we're reaching a point where many of us are ready to see some new entries – and no, the Vita and PS3 version of the Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty remake don't count.
