Next Assassin’s Creed Unity Patch On Hold, Requires Paris Map To Be ‘Refurbished’

by Mike Futter on Dec 15, 2014 at 06:21 AM

Ubisoft has issued a statement indicating that the next Assassin’s Creed Unity update (dubbed “Patch 4”) is on hold. The publisher had originally promised to roll out the latest fixes today, following a long line of repairs to the title.

“As stated last week, we’d expected to release the patch today (and we know that many are anticipating its release), but we are choosing to hold off until we can give you the improvements we’ve promised,” the Ubisoft Live Update Team writes. “We are committed to delivering major performance improvements, which requires that we refurbish the Paris map and that will take a few more days to hit the high level of quality our players deserve.”

The publisher hasn’t offered a specific target for delivering Patch 4. We’ve reached out to Ubisoft for context or clarification around what is involved in refurbishing Assassin’s Creed Unity’s map. We’ll update once more information is available.

Our Take
Refurbishing an entire game map sounds extensive, which would certainly explain the delay. However, if this much work is required under the hood, I return to my principal question about Unity: How did this game ship if it was so terribly broken?
