Dark Souls: Prepare To Die Steam Migration Now Available

by Mike Futter on Dec 15, 2014 at 05:31 AM

From Software and Bandai Namco have initiated the promised Steamworks conversion, dropping Games for Windows Live from the title. In order to carry over your save data and achievements, you’ll need to import them in the next two months.

There are different processes depending on whether you originally purchased on disc, the Windows Live marketplace, or Steam. Regardless, if you have previous save and achievement progress that you want to move over, you’ll need to do so before February 16.

In order to initiate the update, you’ll need to go to your Steam library (after you’ve redeemed that version for disc-based and Windows marketplace buyers). Once there, you’ll have to go into Dark Souls’ properties and enable the “dsptide-2.0” beta.

If you purchase after February 16, you won’t need to deal with the Games for Windows Live version at all. You’ll just be able to start up in Steam and go. For the complete upgrade instructions, you can read them here.

Our Take
If you've been playing Dark Souls (or want to continue your progress), don't forget to do this. It would be a shame to lose your progress through this challenging (and rewarding) game.
