Ubisoft Suggests Playing Offline To Address Save Loading Crashes

by Mike Futter on Dec 08, 2014 at 02:49 AM

Ubisoft is still working on the next major patch for Assassin’s Creed Unity. Earliest details are available now, with a full preview planned for next week.

Ubisoft says the next patch (Patch 4) will address frame rate problems and “additional fixes.” The publishers says that among the issues it is tracking, are game crashes still happening across platforms after loading saved games.

For now, Ubisoft has a workaround that disables one of the core game functions. The publisher suggests taking the console offline to play if you are encountering this problem. This issue is reflected on PlayStation 4 with the error code “CE 34878-0.”

Problems with the Initiates website have been addressed, but it may take time for your progress to be reflected on the website. The companion app also received an update, and players should see improvements with regard to lost premium items, synchronization at login, and lost progress.

Ubisoft’s launch of Assassin’s Creed Unity has been fraught with problems, including a crash tied to using in-game social features. For more on the issues facing Ubisoft and other publishers this fall, you can read a recent opinion piece on the matter.

For season pass holders, stay tuned for information on how to redeem your free game. Ubisoft is working on a solution to deliver that content now.

Our Take
By the time Ubisoft rolls out a patch that fixes these crash problems, the game will have been out for a month. In the case of these crashes, cooperative play was a major selling point. Playing offline erodes the core selling proposition of the title. Right now, releasing another Assassin’s Creed game in 2015 seems like an enormous risk to the brand and consumer confidence.
