Uncharted 4: A Thief's End Gameplay Video Introduces Nathan Drake's Older Brother

by Mike Futter on Dec 06, 2014 at 06:40 AM

Sony's PlayStation Experience event is in full swing, with the keynote presentation leading with one of the company's biggest 2015 exclusives. Game director Bruce Straley handled the live demo on PlayStation 4 hardware.

The visuals are certainly impressive, with detail paid to even the smallest items like the gun shoulder straps. The demo kicks off with an exploration segment, as Nate moves through a cave system.

Uncharted's humor makes the transition to PlayStation 4, with Nolan North giving us all those "Nate noises" to which we're so accustomed. Shortly after exiting the cave, Nate runs into armed troops.

A Thief's End introduces enhanced stealth mechanics using the ground foliage. Nate moves more seamlessly between melee and shooting, and now has a grappling rope that can be used while falling at specific points. Climbing has an upgrade thanks to a retrieved piton that can be used in certain walls.

At one point, Staley slips and Nate falls (dying, and falling through the world). Whether planned or accidental, it reinforces that the gameplay was live.

The biggest surprise comes at the end when we find out who Nate is looking for. Meet Sam, Nate's older brother (above), who is voiced by Troy Baker. Baker voiced and performed Joel in The Last of Us.

We'll have more on Uncharted 4 from PlayStation Experience.
