Sony Unveils ‘Original Grey’ PlayStation 4 20th Anniversary Edition

by Mike Futter on Dec 03, 2014 at 02:13 AM

Today, December 3, 2014, is the 20th anniversary of the PlayStation brand. The first consoles were released in Japan on this day in 1994, and Sony is celebrating with an extremely limited PlayStation 4 deco.

The console features button symbol etchings and the original multi-colored PlayStation 4 logo. Only 12,300 of these numbered units will be available worldwide.

If you want one, you’ll need to move quickly on Saturday, December 6. Full details on pre-ordering will be available at the PlayStation Experience keynote.

Our Take
With the Nintendo DS turning 10 and the PlayStation completing its second decade, it’s worth looking back at what made those consoles so successful. There are a number of factors, but it’s safe to say that the software shipping in a finished state is one of them.

Online integration has been a blessing for sure, but it’s a tool that has been abused. It’s time for developers to remember how to finish their games before selling them.
