Nate Wells Becomes One Of Crystal Dynamics' New Art Directors

by Ben Reeves on Dec 01, 2014 at 08:53 AM

Earlier this year, Nate Wells left The Last of Us developer Naughty Dog. Since leaving he spent some time at The Unfinished Swan developer Giant Sparrow, and now has joined Crystal Dynamics as one of the studio's new art directors.

After leaving Naughty Dog, Wells spent some time at The Unfinished Swan developer Giant Sparrow. According to Wells' Linkedin account (and a note on Twitter today), he has been hired on at Crystal Dynamics. The studio is working on a new Tomb Raider game, announced at E3 2014.

Wells isn't the only one to have left Naughty Dog this year. Uncharted creative director and writer Amy Hennig departed the studio and has moved on to become creative lead on Visceral Games’ Star Wars project. Meanwhile Justin Richmond, director on Uncharted 4, also left to join Riot Games.

Our Take
This is hopefully good news for Crystal Dynamics. The art direction in The Last of Us was incredible, so hopefully, Wells will bring that same level of detail to the new Tomb Raider game, or whatever project the art director is currently working on. Hopefully, Wells doesn't have any reason to leave his new post anytime soon.
