Japan To Discontinue 3DS XL Soon

by Kyle Hilliard on Nov 30, 2014 at 08:37 AM

The 3DS LL (the Japanese name for the 3DS XL) will be ending production soon in Japan.

The line is being discontinued in Japan following the release of the New 3DS LL, which became available in October in Japan. New of the handheld's discontinuation comes from Nintendo's website, where the page for the 3DS LL has the notification, "ending production soon."

The New 3DS does not have a release date for North America yet (outside of an ambiguous 2015), but you can find out more about it here.

Our Take
This is no surprise, but it's always worthwhile to take notice of the end of hardware eras. I welcome the discontinuation in anticipation of the New 3DS. I'm excited for the second control stick and slightly beefier processing. Also, I never played Xenoblade Chronicles on Wii, but I love playing RPGs on handhelds, so I am very excited to see what I missed.
