Miyamoto Discusses Creating Pikmin Short Films, Reveals Pikmin 3DS Theme

by Kyle Hilliard on Nov 22, 2014 at 11:07 AM

In an interview on the Miiverse, Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto discusses making short films compares to making video games.

You can find the full dialogue on the Miiverse. In the interview Miyamoto says making games is easier than making animated short films, but mostly because the two mediums are so different and he has much more experience making games. He also talks about considering the consumer and how that affects making a short film versus making a game. Miyamoto sketched out many of the shorts' storyboards before moving into production, and shared them in the discussion. You can find the images in the gallery below. Miyamoto also revealed in the interview that a Pikmin 3DS theme will be coming soon.

Our Take
The Miiverse is quickly becoming a weird platform for Nintendo's developers to sound off on development, which isn't really something I expected Nintendo to do with its social network. I suppose, for Nintendo's purposes, it's a little safer to share news bits and development details there than it is on something like Twitter.
