Game Of Thrones, True Detective, And More May Be On Xbox One Soon With HBO Go

by Mike Futter on Nov 18, 2014 at 06:32 AM

Update: Microsoft has released a trailer for HBO Go on Xbox One, saying that the app is available now. We checked for ourselves, and it doesn't appear to be showing up quite yet. The wait can't be too much longer now, though.

However, when Microsoft was reached for comment, a company representative denied the app's imminent arrival. "There was a minor programming error on the Xbox 360 dashboard today and it has since been removed," we were told via email. "We apologize for the inconvenience and we look forward to sharing more details when HBO GO launches on Xbox One.”

Original Story:

Xbox One users have been patiently (or, in some cases, not so patiently) waiting for HBO Go on Xbox One. If an update to the app tile on Xbox 360 is any indication, we won’t have to wait much longer.

Tabbing over to the “Apps” section of the Xbox 360 dashboard reveals a new caption on the HBO Go app (as seen below). If accurate, this means that Game of Thrones, True Detective, The Newsroom, and many others will be accessible to subscribers on the Xbox One.

In June, Microsoft said that the app would be available before the end of 2014. We’ve reached out to the company for additional information. We’ll update should we receive response.

Our Take
With Telltale’s Game of Thrones series coming soon, it would be great to have both the new-gen version of the game and the show in one place. It’s also the final season of The Newsroom, which I only mention because you should all watch it.
