Telltale's Game Of Thrones Starts Six-Part Saga With 'Iron From Ice'

by Mike Futter on Nov 10, 2014 at 04:00 AM

Telltale has released a new image for its upcoming Game of Thrones series featuring one of George R.R. Martin's most iconic creations. The Iron Throne sits empty in this latest teaser for the first episode of the new project.

Telltale has been teasing the series via Twitter with the hashtag "IronFromIce." We now know that to be the name of the first episode.

Unlike previous Telltale projects, Game of Thrones will feature six chapters. The Wolf Among Us, The Walking Dead, and others have been split into five parts.

We've been slowly learning more about Telltale's Game of Thrones, most recently from vice president Steve Allison who revealed that players will control five different protagonists from the same family. There have been hints that House Forrester will be at the center of the story.

We also suspect that this image of the Iron Throne gives us a look at the art style for the game. Telltale has been versatile with its aesthetics, aping the looks of comics for The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us and imitating the stylized look of Gearbox's Borderlands titles.

Telltale's Job Stauffer teased yesterday that he was playing two games at the office. One is clearly Tales from the Borderlands. The other is described as a "living oil painting." Based on this image, it seems that he's referencing Game of Thrones.

The first chapter, "Iron from Ice," will be out before the end of 2014.

Our Take
I either need to accelerate my reading of the Song of Ice and Fire books or start marathoning HBO's series to be ready for this series. I'm quite interested to see how Telltale pulls off a "living oil painting" aesthetic, but I want to make sure that I'm well versed in the source material first.
